What is Dolby Atmos?

Dolby Atmos is in our view, the best home theatre technology to be released since the very first time we heard the original Dolby Digital surorund sound.  Not only does it incorporate a normal 5.1 channel or 7.1 channel surorund sound speaker system, it also adds in a number of additional in-ceiling height channels that create an amazing plane of sound above the listener.

The result……..breathtaking!

The Digital Picture can bring this awesome new audio experience to your home, either with a new home theatre or an upgrade to your existing room.

Here’s how it works. First, we start with a traditional 5.1 or 7.1 channel surround sound layout (you can add more subwoofers if you like, as we prefer to do), then we incorporate either 2 overhead Atmos speakers or for larger rooms 4 or more Atmos speakers.  This creates a sound field so intense that you can hear the sound moving in every dimension around the room.  This provides an incredible level of realism.

If ceiling installation is a problem, or for smaller rooms, we can also install Dolby Atmos-Enabled speakers.  Dolby Atmos-Enabled speakers look just like any normal front LCR speaker or rear surround speaker but they are equipped with an extra speaker array that fires the Atmos sound channels up toward the ceiling, reflecting the sound back down onto the listening position.  We have heard Atmos-enabled speakers and they perform admirably in smaller rooms, making for a clean and simple installation.
