DEEP CUT
This Gold Coast home cinema was created by transforming an underutilised upstairs room into a purpose-built private cinema. Previously a bright, awkward space with bulkheads, a side kitchenette and basic seating, the owners wanted a cinematic experience that delivered genuine immersion while working within the constraints of an existing home.
Home Cinema & Media Room
The room measures 6.65 metres long by 4.3 metres wide with a 2.7-metre ceiling, allowing for a carefully planned two-row seating layout with a raised platform for the rear row. As with every project, seating positions were locked in first, forming the foundation for screen size, viewing angles, speaker placement, acoustics and calibration. Despite the challenges of retrofitting around an existing entry and kitchenette, the final layout feels cohesive, balanced and intentional.
A visit to our showroom helped define the system direction, with the clients drawn to the clarity, impact and realism of an Ascendo Immersive Audio speaker system. A full 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos configuration was designed, delivering exceptional imaging, seamless surround movement and powerful yet consistent bass across both seating rows.
The front wall is anchored by a large-format 141” CinemaScope screen, paired with a Sony XW7000ES native 4K laser projector and a Lumagen video processor to maximise HDR performance and aspect-ratio flexibility. Stretch-fabric wall systems conceal speakers and carefully positioned acoustic treatment. A deliberate mix diffusion and absorption acoustic panels ensure the room sounds open, controlled and far larger than its physical dimensions suggest.
Lighting and air-conditioning were redesigned to suit cinema use, including feature column lights and a star-field ceiling fit between new bulkheads. All AV equipment is hidden from view, with compact equipment racks discreetly positioned behind the rear seating platform.
System control is unified via Control4, giving the owners simple, reliable operation of video, audio, lighting and aspect-ratio switching from a single remote.
As with all of our cinemas, the final touch is an in-depth audio and video calibration carried out in-house to ensure every last bit of system performance is realised from the chosen equipment and its environment, ensuring the best possible cinematic experience.
The finished result is an inviting, high-impact home cinema that this family enjoys on a daily basis — cinematic, immersive and thoughtfully engineered, proving that exceptional performance is achievable even within the constraints of a retrofit project.
